Mid Sussex swimmers excel at the South East region championships

It is with great pride that I can report a fantastic success at the regional championships from our swimmers. The South East region championships is split into two parts – 15 and over and 14 under. Over 29th, 30th of April and 1st May our swimmers took part in the 15 and over champs as well as the regional relays. With the 14 and under champs still to come we have already exceeded our best ever medal total and have made some really strong performance progression in the past year.

Our team came away with 8 medals, 14 finals swims, nearly 100% pb strike rate, 2 county records and 10 club records.

Medallists:

Sophie Shaw- 15 years – Gold 50 free and 50 back and bronze 100m back

Sophie Maguire – 16 years – Silver 100m back and Bronze 50m back along with seeing a new county record in the heat of the 50m back breaking team mate’s Sophie Shaw u/16 50m back county record in 30.89

Rachael Bowen – Bronze 50m fly and Bronze 50m breast (a new open club record)

Georgina Gratton – Gold 50m back in a new open county and open club record of 30.82.

Other success saw Jason Hawkey place well and put in a number of pb’s and seasons bests as well as Robin Boyden lowering his 50m fly time to 26.6 in a fantastic swim. Maddi Barnaby set a massive PB in the heats of the 50m breast of 34.95 breaking her age group club record. Sophie Maguire and Sophie Shaw both dipped under 30 seconds in the 50m fly placing 5th in their respective finals.

Our relay teams gained some great experience having a mix of some younger and more experienced swimmers taking on the best in the region.
