Twelve enthusiastic swimmers from Mid Sussex Marlins recently took part in the Sussex Squids Gala for people with disabilities. Their journey to Bognor Regis was well worthwhile as nearly everyone showed improvement and nearly all took home at least one medal.
Richard Sambrook was delighted to win five individual gold medals, the Individual Medley Senior trophy and also the Senior Male Trophy – a very good evening’s work! Louis Moyes had the additional challenge of swimming with metal work on the outside of one of his upper arm’s (part of a bone lengthening process), but swam excellent times and was awarded the Boys Achievement Trophy. A further award was presented to Christopher Manson who came home with the Special Achievement Trophy for his admirable swims.
Alfie Penfold, Reece Meyer and Peter McCleery had several excellent PB’s between them, and Iyinoluwakiitan Bayo-Awonaike thoroughly enjoyed his first gala and was very happy with the two medals that he won.
Throughout the evening, all the swimmers worked hard to contribute valuable points to the team, including Stephen Bayliss, Tom Giles, Pat Hough, Reuben Kerr and Josh Savva. Overall winners of the competition were the hosts, Sussex Squids.
A good evening’s work, well done to all swimmers!
The photos below show the happy swimmers with their medals (missing is Josh Savva).
